How to Be More Disciplined – 10: Write it down

Before you even think about achieving something great, write it down!

Whether or not you’ve decided to pursue an interesting thought as a goal, write it down the moment it pops into your head as an idea. This is the first step of the creative process. And by “creative,” it doesn’t matter if you’re talking about building a new shed or building a new physique. Either way, you’re initiating a process of transformation.

Writing things down ensures that you won’t lose the idea to the ether. Doing so also steps up your level of commitment. Putting it on paper is that first, crucial step. (If you really want to hold yourself accountable, write the goal on a whiteboard or other public area where it’s plain for anyone to see.)

By the way, nothing says you’re limited to printed words. If you think it will help, use drawings, color markers, even voice memos to reinforce new ideas.

Does that worthy goal seem too big and lofty for you to realistically tackle? Go to the next page for a tip that will help you chop those gargantuan goals down to size.
